Gerri Gershon

Board Director

Gerri Gershon was trained as a psychiatric nurse before becoming involved in school issues in elementary school and an elected Trustee on the Toronto District School Board. Until retirement she held positions such as Chair of the Board, President of the Ontario Public School Board’s Association, and President of the Canadian School Boards' Association. She was also appointed by the Provincial Government to chair the Ontario Citizens' Council  which gave advice on moral and ethical issues concerning the health program in Ontario.  Gerri has a particular interest in the Genocide curriculum (which she initiated at the TDSB)  and has always championed  issues of social justice.

With the impending museum and education centre the ALPHA organization has the potential to reach untold numbers of people- teaching them about the lessons we can learn from the history of WW11 in Asia- its horrors, heros and its resilience. The organization has the opportunity to increase its influence in making a better world for young people by studying the past and looking toward the future. It is my greatest honour to be part of that process.
